Hertfordshire wins Southern Counties Seniors’ Foursomes

Teams of ten Seniors from Bedfordshire, Devon, Hertfordshire and Surrey assembled at Boyce Hill GC on 15th September for the Final of the Southern Counties Seniors’ Foursomes.

The weather was kind but the day had a couple of surprises in store for the organisers. The start was delayed because of chaos on the surrounding roads due to a burst water main. As if a delay was not enough, one of the Devon players was unlucky enough to slip on the steep terrain around the 17th hole and broke his ankle (he is now recuperating at home).

At the half way stage, Surrey led with 4.5 points followed by Devon on 3 and Hertfordshire on 2.5. Remarkably, given that they had lost one of their pairs in the morning, Devon finished the day in second place with 6.5 points behind Hertfordshire who only dropped half a point in the afternoon.

Congratulations to the Hertfordshire for a fine performance.
