County Championship 2018 – SEG Qualifier

County Championship 2018 – SEG Qualifier

The South Eastern Group Qualifier for the 2018 County Championship was held at Orsett Golf Club (Essex) on 14th July 2018.

This is a 36 hole strokeplay event. As all scores count in the six man team score there is pressure for everyone to perform well. This is a tough team format. The weather was hot, sunny and dry, as it has been for some weeks. The course was rather less burnt than others in the area but nonetheless exceptionally dry. Despite this the greens were exceptionally good.

Fifteen players (almost a quarter of the field) finished the day under par. The individual winner, David Langley of BB&O (pictured below with Mike Rees – SEG President) scored a remarkable 70 & 65 for a total of 135 which was 9 under par. Included in his score was a hole in one on the 15th. Congratulations David.

The winning team was BB&O (pictured below with Mike Rees and Kevin Lyons – Captain of Orsett Golf Club) who scored a team total of 10 under par. Second was last year’s winners, Hampshire on 2 over and third was Kent on 8 over par. BB&O will now play in the Final of the County Championship which will be held at Aldeburgh Golf Club between 28th and 30th September 2018.

Full results can be found here.

The BB&O team menbers were: George Bayliss, George Gardner, John Gough, Ollie Huggins, David Langley and Timothy SHin.
