2018 Southern Counties Senior Foursomes

2018 Southern Counties Senior Foursomes

The Southern Counties Seniors Foursomes Final was held at Ealing Golf Club on Tuesday 18th September 2018.

Teams of ten players from Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Sussex and Devon had won their respective regional competitions to qualify for the final which was played on an exceptionally well presented course. The wind was ever present throughout the day but didn’t prevent the players from serving up some delightful golf.

The format of this competition regularly produces a close result which is often decided by the last couple of matches. This year was no exception.

After the first round, Devon and Sussex were tied on three points but Devon went into the afternoon in “the lead” by virtue of their higher (by one) “holes-up” total. The afternoon didn’t disappoint. An impressive afternoon from Hertfordshire found them threatening to take the victory as the end of the day approached but they couldn’t quite overcome the strength of the Devon and Sussex teams. Sussex were the eventual winners having been successful in four of their five afternoon matches. A fine performance.

The full results can be found here.

The Sussex Team Manager, Rick Thomas, dedicated his team’s victory to the Sussex President, Gerry Honeysett, who had passed away only a few days before the final. A fitting tribute.

The Sussex Team comprised: David Alderson, David Blundell, Malcolm Cawte, Peter Crowther, Martin King, Mark Logan, Doug Park, Gavin Park, Paul Plant and Roy Stephenson, all of whom are pictured below with Team Manager Rick Thomas.
